Sound, body & space
The course begins by exploring how sound meets the body and the space around us, shaping attention, perception and experience.
We explore these relationships and learn from science-informed perspectives on the nervous system, brain activity, sleep and wake cycles, perception and states of consciousness, using them as additional ways of understanding what we experience.
Through experience and observation, we learn to notice how sound is felt in the body, how a space changes it, and how attention shifts as a result.
Shaping a journey through sound
Next, we explore how different qualities of sound come together to shape an experience over time, and learn the 12-stage framework as a map for it.
12 stages: a map of the arc of a journey, and a guide for choosing sound to meet each phase.
A journey through sound has rhythm, movement, contrast and space. We explore how vibration, frequency, tempo, texture, intensity, density, silence and transitions can influence the quality and direction of an experience.
We also explore perspectives on how sound interacts with the brain, nervous system and perception, including processes such as neural coupling and neuroplasticity.
The 12-stage framework is one of the core things you learn in this course. It offers a map of the arc of a journey, helping you choose and place sounds for each phase, and a structure you can hold while playlisting live, sensing when to build, create space, shift or allow something to remain.
No two journeys unfold in the same way. The practice is meeting each one as it arrives.
Trust what you sense.
Let the journey emerge.
Five areas of practice
Learn through practice
The course is experiential and practical. Each week, you work directly with sound, develop your technical fluency, experiment with mixing and live playlisting, and build your own way of working.
Learning by embodying
Sounds
Build your sound library
Choose and organise sounds, building a collection and an ear for the qualities you want to work with.
Tools
Become confident with the tools
Develop technical fluency with the software and equipment until the technology feels natural to use.
Transitions
Experiment with mixing
Explore layering, timing, transitions and the different ways sounds can meet.
Playlists
Create live playlists
Bring the different elements together and work with sound in real time.
Your approach
Develop your own approach
Practise, experiment, adapt and refine your way of playlisting, until the approach becomes your own.
Over five weeks, you move from hearing sound differently to creating live playlists in your own way.
Who is this course for?
Live Playlisting is for people who want to move from experiencing Dreamwave / innerdance to creating and working with sound themselves.
A foundation to build from
Completing Innerintensive or another foundational Dreamwave / innerdance training is required before joining Live Playlisting. It gives you a grounding in the journey, its principles and the role of the facilitator.
You don’t need previous playlisting, DJ or mixing experience. The course introduces the technical tools and practice from the ground up.
Explore sound
For those with a Dreamwave / innerdance foundation who are drawn to sound and its relationship with the body and experience.
Develop your facilitation practice
For facilitators, coaches, therapists, educators, embodiment practitioners and others who want to bring live playlisting into the spaces they already hold.
Develop your Dreamwave / innerdance practice
For people already connected to Dreamwave or innerdance who want to deepen their relationship with sound and feel more confident creating live playlists.
Explore sound creation
For those with a Dreamwave / innerdance foundation who are drawn to the technical and creative side of playlisting and curious about working with sound, technology and live creation.

Who guides the course
Ahilan & Fanny
Ahilan Sundaralingam and Fanny Lemieux have practised innerdance since 2017 and lead the Live Playlisting Course.
They have been part of the many changes in the sound created in playlisting. For them, playlisting is a process of learning intuitively and becoming attuned to the space, and also a way of knowing and being that keeps developing.
Inspired by their own journey, they created this course to support facilitators and trainers in finding their own way with live playlisting.
